First Video Series - ‘TONES @ The Guitar Rack!'
With the TGR YouTube channel kicking off, I want to get right into it with my first video series format - ‘Tones @ The Guitar Rack’.
One of my favorite approaches to learning and keeping inspired as a player is to select a guitar, select an amp, pair them up for the day, and see what tones/playing that combination inspires. No pre-conceived goal, no ‘forcing’ into a sound - let my feelings for the day, and that instrument combination dictate the playing. As you can imagine, having a combination of unique guitars and amps makes this an absolute dream - always finding great new sounds, and letting them take my playing to new places (some more familiar than others)!
‘Tones @ The Guitar Rack’ is a video series to share that very special experience with YOU. The format consists of a few pieces that you can pick and choose from based on what YOU want to see.
The Video
This is where it starts off. The YouTube video will be simple and to the point - quickly introducing the guitar, amp, and getting to the resulting TONE. I plan to focus on a specific type of tone with each video, rather than covering the full scope of what the amp or guitar can do - my goal is to make this series enjoyable and easy to consume, rather than a super long ‘review’ type video where you have to search/jump to find the actual sounds. Maybe it nails the tone you’ve been looking for? Maybe you’ll just get a kick from my silly guitar faces? Either way, amongst the day to day, life challenges, etc., I hope it shares at least a fraction of my joy/passion in playing, and serves as a break away from the ‘norm’.
If you haven’t already found/subscribed to my YouTube Channel, I’d love to have you join! Go to TGR YouTube Channel
Each video will be accompanied by a link to a new ‘Tones @ The Guitar Rack’ blog post. More on that below…
The Blog
So, with the video being ‘short and sweet’, what if you want to know more about the guitar? What strings and tuning? More about the amp? What were the settings? Any pedals? Swapped tubes? Speakers? How did you record?
You’ve come to the right place. Rather than weigh down the video with the ‘gear nerd’ details (nothing against gear guys, I’m obviously one of them!), I’ll have it all written out for you in the BLOG section. You may find this experience similar to some of the great gear forums we used to hang around in the past. The information will be clearly written, stored, and easy to go back and reference as much as you need. If you like the tone, you’ll have as much info as I can think of about it! If you have questions or want to follow up, I’ll be monitoring the YouTube comments regularly to get back with you - interaction is a huge part of the fun!
Multi-Media Connectivity
Here’s where it gets really cool (to the gear nerd in me, at least)! THE ARCHIVE is where I have been, and will continue to put away photos of both guitars and amps from my collection, past and present. As I create more and more combination of Galleries and ‘Tone @ The Guitar Rack’ clips, I will be cross linking them in the posts. So, this will slowly build a true multi-media guitar archive experience. Go into the folder, look at some killer photos, and boom - there are the linked videos of that guitar through various amps, pedals, etc. It’s about as close as I can think of to really LEARNING about an instrument and everything it can do, across the internet.
So when does this start?
‘Tones @ The Guitar Rack #1’ premieres this week, on Friday, 1/21/22. The small screen shot above may or may not be foreshadowing of the first tone combo. :) Very much looking forward to your thoughts and feedback - stay tuned!
